I've never done a music review before... and it's going to show.

This CD, since I got it last month, has basically lived in my CD player. Now, since it's a 5 disk changer, that doesn't mean as much as it could but it's a pretty good indicator that I really like this disk.

I'd never heard much about Guster before. They played here in Chicago last year around this time and they played at the beginning of this year but I didn't find the time to get into Chicago to hear them. I wish I had.

So anyway, early this year, someone posted to the alt.music.barenaked-ladies group that she really liked this new CD. And I found it cheap on CDNow so I picked it up.

The music is really smooth. Bongos are the percussion so it's usually a nice slow beat with the vocals arcing over. The vocal harmonies are really nice, especially on the third track (Either Way) which I'm not ashamed to say made me tear up when I heard it the first time.

After listening to this CD constantly for a few days, I'll admit I needed a few breaks, but that's just the way go through CD's. I'm limiting usage now but it's still living in the player, like i said. I borrowed a friend's copy of the first Guster CD and while I liked it, I'd have to say that Lost and Gone Forever sounds much more polished.

There's only one song that I marginally dislike, track 7. The falsetto voices start to get to me since they sing high for the entire song. It's always a relief to hear the normal range on track 8. "Phew! He got his balls back!" :-)

Anyway, I think it's a fine piece of music... if you don't agree, mail me and complain.
