We reached Atlanta around 8:00 at night. Still high on the adrenaline, we asked ourselves if we might be able to make it all the way to Amelia Island that night. In the end, we decided to stop, since we were on vacation. Jason checked the AAA book on the road and called a few places and we stopped at the Red Roof Inn south of the airport for the night. We chose it for its price, and location. However, the other clientele seemed vaguely sketchy so we took everything out of the car and into the room for the night.

Dinner was an experience and a half. We went to a place that the hotel clerk recommended, the City Cafe. This place was all blue neon over mirrored walls. On each table was a floating balloon centerpiece which evoked comparisons to tropical fruits. We ordered a small dinner, just salads and some fries. What appeared in front of us were mounds of greens and an entire platter of cut up potatoes swimming in cheese. Jason had a cup of chili that one could swim in, if so inclined.

We planned to wake up the next day at 4, scarcely enough time for all of our electronics to recharge. I set the alarm and then we started talking about stuff. This was funny because for the last 18 hours, we had the chance to talk at length about these topics but no, we just sat for a lot of it, or talked logistics. And now we were cutting into precious sleepytime.

I woke up the next morning and felt too rested. I rolled over and saw it was 6:00. Obviously the cheap little alarm clock had bested me. I glared at it, thinking "I could design you," before hopping in the shower. I'd been without real water pressure in my apartment for so long that this one beat me to the wall for 10 glorious minutes.

We got to Amelia the next day with only one incident, which I promised not to talk about (yeah, now you're curious). I got us a little lost, our only wrong turn on the trip. I'm still a bit embarassed about it. We started a quotelist for the trip. Jason planned one out. "Hi Rick, hi Sean, where's your bathroom?" but in the end he was much more polite.

Amelia!
