Spring Break this year was a sorely needed respite from massive life complications. In the beginning of winter, the plan was to go on an improv tour out east. However, as I am cursed when it comes to improv tours, the trip was nixed. The new plan was to go to Vegas with Khai, but then lack of finances and other interested people killed that. Then I wanted to fly to the East Coast myself to visit a friend. But she had an appointment to get her wisdom teeth out and then was going back to school, so again, nothing. Proving that lack of planning makes memories, Jason and I decided to go with the easiest option which was driving down to Florida to see Rick. My parents were also down in Florida, so we planned to see them in the second half of the week.

We really didn't plan a lot. We had our destinations and a rough schedule but that was it. We went to AAA, and got the maps, and small talk from the lady pulling th TripTik for us. We bought food. This was all the day before we left. Essentials: pop tarts (for me), lip balm (for him), bottled water, contact lens solution. Lilliputian travel sizes of shaving cream and toothpaste. Canned caffeine. None of the parents wanted us driving all the way to Florida, and they weren't too happy with us stopping off in some random Southern town, so we planned to drive from Milwaukee to Atlanta, stop there for the night, then push on the east coast (Savannah) and then down to Rick's parents' place on Amelia Island.

I went over to his place late Friday night with the car for our trip, a Dodge Durango. We loaded up our stuff, and some things my dad wanted at their place in Naples. Mrs. K. gave me more of the same warnings my parents had: "Don't stop for anyone! Don't drive drowsy!" Slept briefly. In the shower in the short end of the morning, I ruminated on how I hadn't slept over at Jason's since junior high, 8 years ago.

Then a quick breakfast and we were off. 5:00 AM, Saturday morning.
